The Ten Best Lines Ever Caught on Video
This Quirk feature was put together by Mackenzie Eisenhour for the April 2003 issue of Skateboarder, with comments from Dan Wolfe, Ty Evans and Greg Hunt. Below are timestamps to all of the lines mentioned.

Krooked in Japan - April 2003
This article, written and photographed by Gabe Morford for the April 2003 issue of Skateboarder, covers the first official Krooked Skateboards trip. Mark Gonzales and Dan Drehobl, the only two official team members at the time, brought along some friends with them for the eight-day stay in the winter of 2002. The full list of people who accompanied them was Brad Staba, Van Wastell, Donny Barley, Bobby Puleo, Keith Hufnagel, Bobby Worrest, Pat Duffy, Matt Field, Tommy Guerrero, Mic-E Reyes, Dan Vellucci and Morf, but only some of them got photos in the article.

Video Days: 20th Anniversary Reunion (repost)
One of the first things I uploaded to this blog two years ago was the Video Days 20th Anniversary article that was published in the February/March 2011 Skateboarder (the first issue when they switched to the oversized format and published 6 issues/year). I've since refined how I scan magazines, and rescanned this article over the course of last week (scanning the oversized issues is tedious). Below are the new scans. Words by Jaime Owens, and photos by Jaime & many others. As I mentioned two years ago, I also appreciate the irony of scanning and posting an article that includes scans from Chrome Ball Incident - very meta.
Guy had the cover of this same issue, getting a new trick at the same spot he skated for his Video Days ender. The still was shot by Ben Colen, and the sequence that was included inside of the cover was shot by John Bradford.
How It Went Down: Gonz's Alcatraz Frontside Pivot
A brief summary of the preparation and execution of the only skate session to go down on Alcatraz Island, which written for one of my favorite monthly Skateboarder features in the May 2007 issue. My wife and I visited the site earlier this year, and I made sure to get some pictures of the spot.
The Photography of Spike Jonze
This portfolio article of Spike's photography appears in the July/August 2000 issue of Skateboarder, which is also the only issue of the magazine that he got a photo on the cover of. The article includes early photos of Gonz, Natas, Hosoi, Guy, Jason Lee, and more. The intro to it was written by Kevin Wilkins.
The 2004 & 2009 Thrasher Wallenberg contest articles
I started following skateboarding in 2006, and one of the things I kept seeing and hearing being referenced was the 2004 Wallenberg contest. I watched the video online over and over and over, completely taken in by how excited everyone was to see people jump down this gap. It was also the first time that I understood the importance of "skate spots" and the history of all of the tricks that have been done at each one. It was how I learned that Andrew Reynolds was synonymous with frontside flips and Lindsey Robertson with heelflips. Also, how sick was it that Elissa Steamer was the first to commit to an ollie? In short, learning about this contest and why it was so incredible was one of the first big things that demonstrated how great the subculture of skateboarding is. A couple of years pass by, and Thrasher announced that on May 30, 2009, they would be holding another contest at the legendary spot. In the five years in between a few more NBDs had been done, including Chris Cole's 360 flip in 2005 (which he stuck but didn't roll away from in the 2004 contest) and Andrew Reynolds's backside flip on the May 2007 Thrasher cover. This knowledge, combined with Thrasher publishing a slew of "Ask The Phelper" videos about Wallenberg leading up to the contest, created a lot of anticipation for what was going to be done down the gap on that late May 2009 day. In my opinion, it lived up to the hype and produced a pretty awesome recap video which still gives me goosebumps, even after 13 years. Here is the article (and cover) as it appeared in the mag. Gonz ollies over Schaaf and Jake kickflips over Ishod
At the beginning of his part in the 2001 video Real To Reel, The Gonz gets towed by Max Schaaf on a motorcycle towards a street bump, where he proceeds to ollie off of it and over Schaaf as he rides by. This trick was also used as an ad that appeared in the July 2001 issue of Thrasher (and maybe in other magazines, but my scan is from Thrasher). I didn't know until a few days ago when I first read the text that Max and Gonz had already done this before for an earlier Real ad, but hadn't thought to film it. I've never seen that one, but would love to try and dig it up someday in the future.
Twelve years later, when Ishod Wair and Jake Donnelly were both in town (San Francisco), someone at Real got the idea to recreate the ad with the two of them. It sounds like it was a little nerve-wracking to do, as Ishod had never ridden a motorcycle before, but they pulled it off and the photo appeared as a January 2014 ad (my scan is specifically from that month's issue of Thrasher). The footage of this appears on Real's YouTube page. Same bump, same motorcycle, same filmer (Dan Wolfe) and photographer (Gabe Morford). Such a cool ad idea. I wonder if they'll do it a third time in 2025?
Fourstar in Japan - September 2005 Thrasher
Out of all of the memorable videos to come out of Crailtap, Super Champion Funzone is probably the most beloved. It documents Fourstar's 2005 tour in Japan and is full of antics and excellent skating from Mark Gonzales, Mike Carroll, Max Schaaf, Rick Howard, and more. Below is the article in Thrasher that the tour produced. Words by Sam Smyth and photos by Gabe Morford.
