Battle For The Nation
This article comes from a trip conjured up by Zach Lyons and Matt Daughters to get the Expedition-One and Organika teams together for two weeks on the East Coast to skate and "battle" to see who was the cooler brand (Organika won). Written by Walker Ryan and photographed by Daughters, this article was published in the May 2010 issue of The Skateboard Mag.
Divulge: Adelmo Jr.
Adelmo's interview from the August 2003 issue of Skateboarder. Words by Alex Klein and photos by Shigeo. I scanned this issue mostly to get this interview up. I love the switch back tail on Sylmar photo.
Sweet Science: Kayo delivers a technical knockout with the release of It's Official
This article was published around the same time that the Kayo video It's Official was released, a video which featured parts from the Expedition-One, Organika, Gold Wheels and DGK teams. Words and photos by Matt Daughters. Scanned from the July 2006 issue of Skateboarder.
The Amazon: The Ayahuasca Made Me Do It
This article documented a Jonathan Mehring-led trip through Brazil with stops in Belém, Santarém & Manausa. Highlights included a three-day boat ride on the Amazon, a tour through the jungle, and an intense Ayahuasca trip with emetic aftershocks. This was the feature article of the oversized run of Skateboarder which lasted from 2011 to the end of the magazine's print run in 2013, and it was a great example of how the change in format benefitted their content. Print was dying anyways, but it was cool to see Jaime & Co. still putting in the work to make the coolest issue possible each time. Words and photos by Mehring. The video series they made to accompany this article can still be seen on their YouTube channel, too! All videos by Josh Stewart.
