The Making of The Search For Animal Chin

The story of The Bones Brigade, Powell Peralta and The Search For Animal Chin has been told many times in articles, books, interviews and documentaries, so chances are, the information below won't be anything you haven't already heard or read. Or, maybe not. As stories are told and retold over time, small details get excluded, either intentionally or unintentionally, and become lost. Hopefully, there's something in this October 2001 article that you didn't know yet about one of the most culturally significant moments in skateboarding's history.

15 Things You Didn't Know About DC Shoes

This is the third-ever 15 Things article in Skateboarder, appearing in the October 2001 issue. I'm posting it as a small way of paying tribute to Ken Block, who started DC in 1995 with Damon Way which went on to become a very influential company in the skateboarding industry. Koston's and Cory's pizza box ollies

In 2013, Nike did a brief "Inspired by Koston" ad series for one of his pro shoes, where a younger Nike rider would be photographed doing a trick that Eric had done in the past, with interesting specs & "stats" given about the spot, skater, etc. It was a really cool idea, and I wish they had done more of them.

The March 2013 Nike ad in that month's issue of Thrasher is a picture of Cory Kennedy ollieing off of a bump and over a couch while holding a box of pizza and biting down on a slice in mid-air. This is an obvious nod to Koston doing the same thing in his 2002 Chomp On This video part, which also appears in a photograph featured in the Extra section of the October 2001 issue of Skateboarder. The picture and Cory's 2013 Nike ad are pictured below.
