John Cardiel - May 2003 interview

This interview was conducted by John's fellow Rasta buddy, Matt Rodriguez. Lots of great photos and positivity in this piece, as expected. Photos by Gabe Morford. Cardiel also got the cover of this issue.

Nyjah Huston interview - July 2008

Below is Nyjah's feature Skateboarder, from the July 2008 issue. Words by Chris Nieratko and photos by Brian Gaberman.

Chima Ferguson interview - July 2008

I'm pretty sure this is Chima's first full interview in a US skateboarding magazine. Lots of sick photos in this one. It's crazy to think that he is still skating at such a high level nearly 16 years later.

In the intro to the interview, Adam Salo mentions that "Chima popped up on our collective radar when he kickflipped a 17 stair in his native Sydney a while back". You can see that clip here, which was the ender of his 2005 "Killself" video part.

Words by Salo, photos by Andrew Mapstone, and illustrations by Chris Bywater.

Dan Nepscha - double flip frontside boardslide

This sequence appeared in the July 2008 issue of Skateboarder. Although it's not the prettiest trick, Dan does it almost perfectly here. I remember seeing this for the first time and closely looking at each frame to make sure it was legit. For a long time the only way (to my knowledge) to see this trick footage online was in some YouTube compilation video that was probably 144p. Thankfully, Kristian Svitak has recently uploaded a bunch of the 1031 Skateboards videos to his YouTube page, so now you can see the clip in all its glory here (unless you've owned the DVD this entire time).

Photo sequence shot by the late Matt Mecaro.

Hey There, Hot Stuff: Nike Ams Discover Vixens In Amsterdam

Andy Henrie's write-up of this Nike am trip to Amsterdam features a story about meeting an eccentric family during the trip, which maybe doesn't age so well. Product of its time. Ah well, at least the Ryan Flynn photos are really sick! This article appeared in the January 2009 issue of Skateboarder, and Justin Brock was on the cover with a photo from this same trip.

Flip's (2007) Eurotrashed Tour

The Flip team took a trip through The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and back to The Netherlands in July of 2007, skating demos and getting tricks at spots along the way, some of which would show up in Extremely Sorry. This article also features what might be the first photos of Christoph "Willow" Wildgrube in an American skateboarding magazine. Words by Ewan Bowman, and photos by Thomas Gentsch and Arto Saari.

One thing I remember from seeing this article for the first time was being in awe of the sequence of Willow's varial heelflip. That set is still huge by today's standards.

Hell Yeah! The Nick Trapasso Experience

This interview for the March 2008 issue of Skateboarder was conducted by Nick's then-boss, Ed Templeton. This interview is very much a product of its time: casual homophobic language used, speculation of being drafted to Iraq, and openly hating on Ryan Sheckler. Photos by John Bradford.

Hostel Life: Insight in Australia

This article covers an Insight 51 tour to Australia, published in the December 2007 issue of Skateboarder. The "Hostel Life" title comes from the team's hotel accommodations being downgraded to a communal hostel upon arrival. Words and photos by John Bradford. This article also features a photo of a young Nick Boserio.

Applied Elementology

This article covers some of the street skating that the Element team got in between demos on a Zumiez Couch Tour. The article was published in the February 2005 issue of Skateboarder, so the tour was from sometime in 2005. Words and photos by John Bradford.

Chad Muska interview - September 2007

Below is Chad Muska's interview from the September 2007 issue of Skateboarder. Unless I am mistaken, I believe this was Chad's last full interview in a magazine. He talks about skate fashion, going to Oscar parties, and feeling reinvigorated with skateboarding after making the move from Shorty's to Element. Words by Adam Salo and photos by Brian Gaberman. I really like the basketball hoop dropin photo.
