The Amazon: The Ayahuasca Made Me Do It

This article documented a Jonathan Mehring-led trip through Brazil with stops in Belém, Santarém & Manausa. Highlights included a three-day boat ride on the Amazon, a tour through the jungle, and an intense Ayahuasca trip with emetic aftershocks. This was the feature article of the oversized run of Skateboarder which lasted from 2011 to the end of the magazine's print run in 2013, and it was a great example of how the change in format benefitted their content. Print was dying anyways, but it was cool to see Jaime & Co. still putting in the work to make the coolest issue possible each time. Words and photos by Mehring. The video series they made to accompany this article can still be seen on their YouTube channel, too! All videos by Josh Stewart.

Video Days: 20th Anniversary Reunion (repost)

One of the first things I uploaded to this blog two years ago was the Video Days 20th Anniversary article that was published in the February/March 2011 Skateboarder (the first issue when they switched to the oversized format and published 6 issues/year). I've since refined how I scan magazines, and rescanned this article over the course of last week (scanning the oversized issues is tedious). Below are the new scans. Words by Jaime Owens, and photos by Jaime & many others. As I mentioned two years ago, I also appreciate the irony of scanning and posting an article that includes scans from Chrome Ball Incident - very meta.

Guy had the cover of this same issue, getting a new trick at the same spot he skated for his Video Days ender. The still was shot by Ben Colen, and the sequence that was included inside of the cover was shot by John Bradford.

Marc Johnson interview - February/March 2011

This interview was published a little over a year before Pretty Sweet, and (by his own admission) was Marc's "first sober interview". MJ has been through quite a bit since this interview as well. Wherever he is and whatever he is up to, I hope he is well. Words by Jaime Owens and photos by Ben Colen.

Blueprint In Mallorca (June 2005)

This is the third Blueprint Mallorca trip article that I have found in my archiving of Skateboarder. Despite all of the other archiving and cataloging I do with this magazine, I still haven't paged through every issue to see if there are more of these trip articles that I still haven't scanned. I scan them, we I see them, I guess. Here are the 2004 and 2009 articles that I have scanned and posted already. Words by Neil Chester and photos by Leo Sharp. 18 pages!!

Grant Patterson - June 2005 interview

Below is Grant Patterson's interview from the June 2005 issue of Skateboarder. All of the photos in this appeared in his What If? part, which aside from a few tricks he'd already filmed previously, were all filmed in the two months between when he got on Blind and when the video premiered. Words by Ryan Allan and photos by Jody Morris.

Sierra Fellers - February 2007 interview

California Dreaming: RVCA's Golden State Adventure

"The RVCA team knows you don't have to fly to some obscure corner of the world and spend tons of dough for an article, so the team jammed North up the I-5 hitting all the plentiful spots right in their own backyard without ever having to leave the Golden State". Words by Cairo Foster and photos by John Bradford. This trip article appeared in the October 2009 issue of Skateboarder.
