Guy Mariano: Back In Business
This Guy Mariano feature was published in the November 2005 issue of Thrasher. All photos shot by Giovanni Reda. In his Epicly Later'd episode, Guy credits Reda and this article as "a key ingredient [...] of all that was to come", referring to his re-entry into skateboarding and 2007 Fully Flared comeback part.
Chocolate Road: In Photos
A photo feature from the March 2010 issue of The Skateboard Mag published during the filming of Pretty Sweet. Text and photos by Atiba.
Guy Mariano interview - February 2013
This interview was published in the February 2013 issue of The Skateboard Mag, around the same time that Pretty Sweet premiered. Words by Chris Nieratko and photos by Atiba.
Eating Elvis in the Canary Islands
This Jonathan Mehring feature of a trip to the Canary Islands was published in the August 2008 issue of Skateboarder. Not surprisingly, the article tells a wild story from the trip. It also features a lot of photos of Guy Mariano, which I remember being very stoked on back in 2008 when I first flipped through this magazine - especially the switch crook.
Spike Jonze's 9 Most Memorable Moments While Filming Video Days
Below are Spike Jonze's nine most memorable moments while filming for Video Days, as told to Aaron Meza. This was published in the January 2003 issue of Skateboarder.
For anybody keeping count, this is my 600th post on this blog. Never thought I'd get this far, and no plans of stopping anytime soon - there's still a lot more I want to scan and post. I appreciate all of the feedback and encouragement I have received from all of you - this has been a nice opportunity for me to feel like I am contributing to skateboarding culture in a small way. Thank you! -SMN
The Rat Pack: Back to Da Boot
This article covers Giovanni Reda's fifth annual skate trip to Italy and appeared in the February 2007 issue of Skateboarder. For this one, he brought along filmer Federico Vitetta, Danny Montoya, Guy Mariano, Jesus Fernandez, and Mikey Taylor. Words and photos by Reda.
Video Days: 20th Anniversary Reunion (repost)
One of the first things I uploaded to this blog two years ago was the Video Days 20th Anniversary article that was published in the February/March 2011 Skateboarder (the first issue when they switched to the oversized format and published 6 issues/year). I've since refined how I scan magazines, and rescanned this article over the course of last week (scanning the oversized issues is tedious). Below are the new scans. Words by Jaime Owens, and photos by Jaime & many others. As I mentioned two years ago, I also appreciate the irony of scanning and posting an article that includes scans from Chrome Ball Incident - very meta.
Guy had the cover of this same issue, getting a new trick at the same spot he skated for his Video Days ender. The still was shot by Ben Colen, and the sequence that was included inside of the cover was shot by John Bradford.
Curtain Call: Guy Mariano
One of my favorite features that The Skateboard Mag had were the Curtain Call interviews. Here is Guy Mariano's for Fully Flared, which was also the first Curtain Call ever done for the magazine. As told to Paul Zitzer, photo sequence by Jeff Landi.
No Matter What: 2006 Lakai US Tour
This 2006 Midwest & Western US filming trip for Fully Flared appeared as a feature in the March 2007 issue of The Skateboard Mag. Words by Chris Ray, and photos by Jeff Landi. I'm personally stoked that there's four photos at Minnesota spots!
