Matt Miller interview - September 2010

This September 2010 Skateboarder interview was published around the time that Matt had been turned pro by Expedition after being gone from Zoo York for less than a year. I've always enjoyed Matt's skating. For a while it seemed like he could do any flip trick into a backside nosebluntslide.

Chillin' In Chile

A trip initially planned for Venezuela was changed to Chile, which planner and photographer Ian O'Connor was hesitant about doing due to never having skated in the country before. Fortunately, an interesting article with plenty of photos at unique spots was able to be produced, appearing in the July 2008 issue of Skateboarder.

Jeremy Reeves - Pig Wheels 360 flip ad

Below is the December 2008 Pig Wheels ad that I scanned from Skateboarder, featuring Jeremy Reeves 360 flipping the Minneapolis Farmer's Market gap. When I've been talking with other Minnesota skaters about some of the best tricks that have gone down at local spots, it's an inevitability that this comes up. In Jeremy's own words (over Instagram DM), "[i]t’s probably one of the best tricks I’ve ever done honestly. Spot is pretty gnarly in person for that trick", The photo was shot by Dan Z, and the footage can be seen in Jeremy's part in WTF Is A Bachinsky?

Eli Reed - December 2008 interview

This brief Skateboarder interview was published several months before the 2009 Zoo York State of Mind video was released and features photos of some of the tricks from Eli's part, where he infamously skated to Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Takin' Care Of Business".

John Cardiel - May 2003 interview

This interview was conducted by John's fellow Rasta buddy, Matt Rodriguez. Lots of great photos and positivity in this piece, as expected. Photos by Gabe Morford. Cardiel also got the cover of this issue.

Nyjah Huston interview - July 2008

Chima Ferguson interview - July 2008

I'm pretty sure this is Chima's first full interview in a US skateboarding magazine. Lots of sick photos in this one. It's crazy to think that he is still skating at such a high level nearly 16 years later.

In the intro to the interview, Adam Salo mentions that "Chima popped up on our collective radar when he kickflipped a 17 stair in his native Sydney a while back". You can see that clip here, which was the ender of his 2005 "Killself" video part.

Dan Nepscha - double flip frontside boardslide

This sequence appeared in the July 2008 issue of Skateboarder. Although it's not the prettiest trick, Dan does it almost perfectly here. I remember seeing this for the first time and closely looking at each frame to make sure it was legit. For a long time the only way (to my knowledge) to see this trick footage online was in some YouTube compilation video that was probably 144p. Thankfully, Kristian Svitak has recently uploaded a bunch of the 1031 Skateboards videos to his YouTube page, so now you can see the clip in all its glory here (unless you've owned the DVD this entire time).

Photo sequence shot by the late Matt Mecaro.

Hey There, Hot Stuff: Nike Ams Discover Vixens In Amsterdam

Andy Henrie's write-up of this Nike am trip to Amsterdam features a story about meeting an eccentric family during the trip, which maybe doesn't age so well. Product of its time. Ah well, at least the Ryan Flynn photos are really sick! This article appeared in the January 2009 issue of Skateboarder, and Justin Brock was on the cover with a photo from this same trip.
